The Moon in Cancer, closing out the crab's span. The Moon rules Cancer, so here it is at home and at full strength, and a planet at full strength in its own sign tends to turn inward and attend only to itself. For the Moon, that means feeling feeding on feeling: mood without movement, the emotional world closing around its own weather. After the celebration of the three, the four stabilises the suit, and stable emotion, left too long, goes still. Apathy, contemplation and discontent. Somebody withdrawn into their own thoughts, unmoved by what is on offer, aware mainly of what is missing. It is not quite sadness and not quite boredom; it is the flat, inward state in which even good things fail to register. The card has a gentler reading too, as a necessary pause for reflection, a time to reassess what you really want before saying yes to anything else. A retreat intended as a pause can become a shutdown, and apathy can shade into depression without anybody deciding it should. If that is what is happening, the most important step is reaching out, to a friend, a doctor, anyone who can help. Occasionally the reversed Four describes a missed opportunity finally recognised, sometimes too late, which is painful and also clarifying about what you want next time.
