The Chariot — upright meaning

Overview

Cancer rules the Chariot, which surprises people until they think about the crab: a soft creature that survives by growing a shell and moving sideways with great persistence. Seven is the number of effort after the rest of six, and what the card is about is will: the decision to go and the discipline to keep going. It is victory, but earned victory, won by holding opposing forces on one course. Two impulses pull in different directions and the driver does not let either of them steer. In a reading it can also mean literal travel, a move, a vehicle, or a person with drive: ambitious, protective of their own, hard to stop once pointed somewhere.

The Chariot in love

Pursuing somebody, or a relationship moving forward on purpose. It can also mean a couple pulling together through a hard stretch, each person steadying the other. The warning is control: the Chariot wins by steering, and a partner is not something to steer.

The Chariot in career

Momentum. A campaign won, a deadline beaten, a promotion taken by effort nobody could ignore. This card favours the person who has decided and keeps showing up, and it has little patience for the plan still being perfected a year after it should have launched.

The Chariot and money

Money gained through push and discipline. A target reached because somebody tracked it every week. Also spending on movement: a car, a relocation, travel with a purpose attached to it. The gains come to whoever keeps the budget on course when a tempting detour appears, and they stay because the same person keeps checking.

The Chariot: yes or no?

Yes, if you drive it. The outcome is available and will not arrive by waiting, so the answer holds only while you keep hold of the reins.

As feelings

Determined, guarded, focused on a goal. Somebody who shows care by protecting and providing, and who may keep their softer feelings behind armour until they trust you.

As actions

Taking charge, setting off, pushing through an obstacle. Choosing one direction and refusing to be distracted. Travelling, moving house, making the decisive move in a stalled situation.

Advice

Pick the direction and commit to it. The Chariot fails from hesitation far more often than from speed. Keep both horses in view: the part of you that wants to charge and the part that wants to retreat both need steering, not silencing.

The Chariot — reversed meaning

Overview

The reins have slipped. Cancer's shell exists to protect a soft interior while it keeps moving; reversed, the shell becomes the whole point, and the crab either lashes out with its claws or edges sideways away from the goal. Energy is still there, often plenty of it, but it has lost its direction and is going nowhere fast, or it has turned into force used on people instead of on the obstacle. The quieter version is stalling. Somebody who had momentum and lost it, or who never quite committed and now watches the moment pass. A move delayed, a journey cancelled, a plan pulled apart by two wants that were never reconciled.

The Chariot reversed in love

A struggle for control, or two people heading in different directions without saying so. Also pursuit that has become pressure, where the harder one person pushes the further the other withdraws.

The Chariot reversed in career

Scattered effort, aggression at work, or a project that lost its driver. Ambition without a plan, or a plan nobody has the will to execute. Sometimes a career pushed hard in a direction chosen by someone else, which explains why winning it feels so empty.

The Chariot reversed and money

Impulsive spending, a goal abandoned halfway, money lost by pushing a decision through too fast to check it.

The Chariot reversed: yes or no?

No, not as things stand. Nobody is steering, and the outcome depends on somebody taking the reins again.

As feelings

Frustrated, powerless, or defensive. Somebody who feels pulled in two directions and resents whoever they blame for it.

As actions

Forcing, stalling, lashing out. Changing direction every week. Travel plans falling through.

Advice

Stop and work out which aim is really yours before pushing harder. More force applied to a divided will only makes the crash louder. Pick one aim, drop what contradicts it, and start moving slowly enough to steer.
